Is Stamped Concrete a Do-It-Yourself Project

Is installing stamped concrete a do-it-yourself project? Well the short answer is NO!  Do you consider yourself a weekend warrior who loves taking on small projects around your home?  Stamped concrete is not one of those projects that you want to take on alone.  The main reason for this statement is that when it comes to stamped concrete you only get one chance to get it right, so you are better off leaving it to the professionals.  When it comes to concrete, especially stamped it is very unforgiving as well as expensive when it comes to the materials as well as time.  Unlike other do-it-yourself projects like plumbing or carpentry, concrete does not come apart and you cannot come back to finish it tomorrow if you run out of time.

Here are four main reasons why stamping concrete is not a do-it-yourself job that you want to start:

The Basics

There are many different factors that make stamping concrete better when it is left to the professionals.  The most obvious factor being the basics of placing concrete, which can be considered an art in itself, proper sub base preparation is essential.  Sub base preparation often includes 2 to 4 inches of stone or sub base material that in fact needs to be properly compacted.

The next step is dealing with forming, not only does this step require the proper form material, but a great understanding of elevations as well as slopes.  If the proper slope is not maintained you could end up with puddling and/or standing water issues.  As already stated concrete is permanent and so will these low spots, as well as they will be very difficult to repair.

The Placement

If you were to talk to any concrete professional they would tell you that placing as well as finishing concrete is considered as much of an art as it would be considered a technique.  It takes many years to get a grasp on just the basic of concrete, let alone become good at it.  By taking it to the next level of concrete placement and add stamping into the mix, now you have just increased that learning curve by another three to five years.

Coloring Issues

With the growth of colored concrete on the rise, and the ability to purchase colored concrete from most ready mix companies, ordering and receiving colored concrete is probably the easiest step in the whole process of stamping concrete.  It is all the other factors that are involved such as making sure the color comes out correctly that can make this job hectic.

The Stamping Process

Keep in mind that a good stamped concrete job looks great, while on the other hand a poor or even fair stamp job just looks horrible.  The most intolerant part of stamping concrete is the actual stamping. You may just be able to get away with a poor finish or even poor placement, but when it comes to the imprinting process it is permanent as well as being very expensive and difficult to repair.  The stamp itself can cost you thousands of dollars if you were to purchase them, even hundreds if you were to rent.

If you want to have the beautiful look of stamped concrete around your home, speak with us here at Unique Crete Designs. We can go over a design, placement and the process with you, so you can have a beautifully finished stamped concrete look.

Make an Impact with Branded Concrete

Being able to fully customize your concrete is a great way to be seen, or to get the design that you’d like, anywhere that you’d like it. When it comes to being able to seal a floor using a beautiful overcoat, allowing the concrete to look much different from you’d expect. When it comes to branding though, this is when you can make your business name known, and even become a bit creative with it. Learning more about branding your logo, or other business tag line to a concrete path, or walkway and advertise easily.

Concrete Stamping and Your Business

When your logo and name is stamped into the concrete, it shows that you’re able to advertise in a unique, different type of way. This not only gives your company, and building, character but it also gives your name a bigger meaning, with more eyes that are able to see it. You can choose the logo, the specific name and even a catch phrase to put on the concrete.

This can be done inside the building, as well. By laying down a concrete floor, and then placing the logo or other picture or words onto it, you then have it sealed. This makes the floor stand out much more than it normally would with granite, wood or carpeted floors throughout the building. This provides a little more personality throughout the building, but also a touch of confidence.

When you see this type of work throughout the building of a company, you know that they are committed to providing the best services, and want to make a name for themselves. Through this, the customers come first, while ensuring that the business is one that can be seen and heard of. By spreading the company name throughout the entire building, but also in other places that have concrete, the business is working to get their name out there, and work with the clients and customers that seen their unique concrete stampings.

Find where you’d like to have your concrete stamped today, and make sure that you’re seen.

Here are Unique Crete Designs, we can ensure that your business is seen by those that walk past your company, or anywhere else that you choose to place your name and logo. Contact us today to learn more about the work that we can do for you, and your business.

Polished or Stained Concrete Can Transform a Room

While flooring can become quite expensive, you generally do not consider concrete laid down in rooms to make them stand out. However, when the concrete is specially designed, it can take on a whole new look and feel. With polished and stained concrete, the floors can take on any appearance that you’re searching for - marble, stone, granite, tiles and so many others.

The best part of stained concrete is the fact that it is completely affordable to any budget. You can have a beautiful floor, but you do not have to spend your entire life savings to do so.

The Unique Appearances of Polished Concrete

Through polished concrete, you can accomplish the look and feel of a floor you’ve always wanted, but without the high price. Not only that, but the flooring is able to last a much longer time than if you were to go with another flooring option.

Once the concrete is spread onto the floor, it is then dried completely. This allows it to harden so the stain glaze can easily be spread over the top of the concrete without mixing together. Once the stain is laid down, the stained concrete is then left to sit and dry. This is to ensure that the layers do not overlap or mix with one another.

Once both layers are laid down and dried, the polish which seals the concrete floor is laid over the top layers. This holds in the look and feel of the stain, while also ensuring that it lasts for some time. Without the sealant on the polished floor, it would also be much harder to clean if something is spilled on it. The sealant is one of the most important parts of having polished concrete.

The look and feel that you choose to go with depends on your unique tastes. You can let the professional know what type of look you’re trying to achieve and then go from there when it comes to creating the look from the polish and stain combination going on the concrete floor.

Unique Crete Designs provides homeowners with the ability to have the beautiful polished concrete throughout their homes. With many specific designs, stains and polishes that they provide; you can choose the look and feel of the floor that you’d like to have in your home. Garage Transformation Step 1: The Custom Concrete Floor

scored garage floor.JPG

Decorative Concrete for Your Garage Transformation

Your garage. Often, the garage is one of the most neglected spaces in the home. But you’ve dreamed of transforming yours into a sleek, functional workspace for as long as you can remember. Now, the weather is turning colder. The number of good days for working outdoors is dwindling. Seems like it might be the perfect time to turn the dream into reality.

What’s the best place to start? That’s easy: the floor. Most garages have poured concrete floors, and concrete is the perfect material for this project. A decorative concrete professional can affordably refinish your existing concrete floor, adding color, patterns, scoring, a custom image like a family crest, team or company logo, and finish it with a dust and stain resistant high gloss sheen. The hardest part of this process? Choosing the design. Many choose a classic black and white checkerboard pattern. Others have chosen a faux wood or stone look, with the ever popular compass rose accent for the avid explorer. We could go on, but maybe it’s better to let your imagination roam free.

The end result is always stunning. Once the floor is finished, the rest of the garage usually just springs together quickly and easily. After all, once you’ve gone from drab to fantastic, your old boring worktable and unfinished walls just won’t do.

Are you ready to finally meet that incredible workspace you’ve known in your imagination? Pick up the phone and give us a call at Unique-Crete Designs. We offer many one-of-a-kind concrete finishing solutions, concrete overlay systems and are manufacturer certified for Retroplate Concrete Polishing System and HTC Superfloor. For more ideas and information, contact  Unique-Crete Designs at 615-334-0904 today, or click HERE to get a free estimate.
